News OPPORTUNITY BANK SERBIA AGAIN IN 2016 CONFIRMED AS A BANK WHICH KEEPS CLIENTS AS THE DRIVING FORCE

Social Rating 2016

Opportunity Bank Serbia (OBS) proudly announces that it has fulfilled, again in 2016, all the conditions for the Client Protection Certification awarded by the global project „Smart Campaign“ (www.smartcampaign.org ) which is a global effort to unite microfinance leaders around a common goal: to keep clients as the driving force of the industry. This is the recognition of OBS alignment of the management systems, policies and processes with the Client Protection Principles and the strong commitment from management to promote growth and institutional development within a client protection framework.

The process carried out on behalf of Smart Campaign by an independent rating agency Microfinanza Rating from Italy was extremely comprehensive and it included desktop review and field assessment of OBS policies and procedures, staff trainings, marketing activities and business processes in relation to the set of 30 standards derived from Client Protection Principles. Some of the main principles assessed as a part of certification were protection from overindebtedness, transparency, protection of client data, complaint resolution, fair pricing, etc.

With the recently received social rating A which has confirmed Opportunity as the bank that fulfills its social mission to empower the underserved and financially excluded people to transform their lives, their children’s futures and their communities by providing financial solutions and training, this Client Protection Certificate is an additional reward for OBS efforts to create value for clients, as confirmed by the growth of number of OBS clients and the bank’s loan portfolio.

This is a huge success for OBS, because not many MFIs in the world were assigned such a high social rating grade. OBS's Social Performance Management (SPM) measuring methodology, launched in 2014, is based on four SPM indicators:

- Number of jobs created and sustained with OBS loans

- Poverty category based on the household discretionary income in line with the national statistics

- Share of clients who progress into a higher income category thanks to OBS loan(s), and

- Number/share of loan clients living in rural areas

This official certification confirms that OBS is a double bottom-line microfinance institution because it seeks not only financial stability but also to achieve several social goals through supporting the development of entrepreneurship and providing opportunities to transform the lives of the unemployed and economically disadvantaged in Serbia. Besides continued financial support to entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, as well as to small rural agricultural households in Serbia, achieving and measuring social performance is one of the biggest priorities for Opportunity Bank .
